Heart, Head, Hands – Learning knowledge and cultivating action

Across Europe, climate education became something to experience, not just study. Through the DEAR project 1Planet4All, hundreds of students and educators used the “Heart, Head, Hands” approach to connect emotion with critical thinking and action.

Supported and competent, these youth went on to design and lead climate campaigns.

In Austria, Belgium, France, Italy, Poland, Portugal and Spain, youth climate workshops and camps engaged participants through experiential learning and collective action.

At the University of Lisbon, over 280 students and 15 professors co-created a living classroom for biodiversity and sustainable food in an urban permaculture garden. And three Lisbon schools planted “classroom forests”, inspiring 10 more city schools.

In Poland, workshops and conferences gathered teachers and schoolkids to test new ways of learning and communicating about global issues. Twelve online sessions supported more than 120 youths preparing school-based campaigns involving thousands of peers. “If it motivated me in my activism, it’s especially because I lost my fear of speaking up!” —Climate Camp participant
