Game On!

Greening the Stage – 100 000+ festivalgoers joined Europe’s greenest parties

Across Europe, summer festivals went climate-conscious. At least 12 music and cultural events adopted low-waste, low-carbon practices with the help of the Game On! project – showing that environmental action can be as vibrant as live music itself.

From Hungary to Slovakia and Latvia, organisers introduced reusable cup schemes, promoted cycling and public transport, cut food waste, and wove climate messaging into performances and workshops. Altogether, an estimated 110 000+ festivalgoers experienced these greener events during the summer 2023, discovering how entertainment can model everyday sustainability.

The Festival Greening Handbook distilled their lessons into practical guidance. What began as an experiment became a movement – proving that culture can be a lever for change.
