OUR FOOD, OUR FUTURE

From Geneva to Brussels – Young people contributed to the European policy process

Forty-eight young Europeans moved from campaigning to policy processes through Our Food, Our Future’s Advocacy Challenge. They met decision-makers face-to-face and learned how global and EU policies take shape. Supported by the project, youth advocates joined two major events.

In Geneva, during the 7th Session of the UN Intergovernmental Working Group on business and human rights, 31 participants took part in the Geneva Challenge, debating fair trade, sustainability, and corporate responsibility alongside NGOs and experts. In Brussels, 17 youth advocates discussed specific policies with NGOs and Members of the European Parliament.

“Going to Brussels made the mechanics of the EU more real – showing what the legislation means for the sector.”
—Participant, Advocacy Challenge

Their engagement earned recognition from policymakers and officials, bringing youth and civil society attention to supply chain fairness and gender-responsive policy. The experience built participants’ confidence and showed that youth presence in political spaces is key for any policy.
