Climate Of Change

Creative Activism – Turning eco-anxiety into collective energy

More than 20 000 young Europeans took part in creative actions for climate justice — transforming awareness into a wave of locally led, artistic activism. From comics to flash mobs, youth groups across nine EU countries proved that climate communication can be joyful, accessible, and human.

More than 15 000 people in 8 EU countries – and 6 million others online – watched a Climate of Change performance in which circus artists portrayed the suffering of communities affected by climate change. The tour included 18 performances across Europe in 2022, and 2 documentaries screened at 8 film festivals.

In Greece, young illustrators produced comic journalism stories, later exhibited at Comicdom Athens 2022. In Portugal, theatre groups used performance to spark public conversations on climate and migration. Other initiatives ranged from summer camps for young reporters, to study visits in the Global South, from workshops to street actions that made sustainability visible in daily life.

Each supported by small grants from Climate of Change, these participatory and locally relevant initiatives showed youth how art can turn eco anxiety into collective energy.
