We Eat Responsibly

Project complete, from February 2015 to February 2018

What is it about?

“We Eat Responsibly” worked on identifying links between food consumption and global social and environmental issues. The project developed the concept and implemented a year-long educational programme on responsible food consumption in the eco-school network in nine EU countries. It focused on how our food changes the world, developing methodologies and lesson plans. Working to co-create new, responsible solutions for sustainable lifestyles, the project strived to have students lead the change, involve the local community and activitate teachers.

What changes does this project inspire?

1 800 teachers explored the links between food production, changes in society and the environment and the quality of our lives. 550 European eco-schools ran yearlong programmes on responsible food consumption topics. 90 000 students and pupils, as well as parents, were actively involved in promoting sustainable menus and making little changes in their neighbourhoods. Over 42 200 households participated in a review of their food consumption habits. 120 food experts, chefs, farmers, policy-makers and other influencers supported the school activities.
