Tax Justice Together

Project complete, from March 2015 to May 2017

What is it about?

Tax Justice Together addressed tax dodging, which costs developing countries over €145 billion a year. It increased citizens’ support for the EU to combat tax avoidance and evasion, and to promote progressive and equitable tax reforms. “Together for Tax Justice” also itself advocated for tax reforms that support the needs of developing countries – at national, pan-european and global level. It worked with NGOs, the EU and EU Member State decision makers and opinion formers to promote critical knowledge and understanding of illicit capital flight and foster political support for policy change.

What changes does this project inspire?

“Together for Tax Justice” ran hundreds of actions to promote progressive tax reforms, including a petition calling for public country-by-country tax reporting. It targeted national and EU decision-makers with progressive policy aims. Activists from the Global South toured Europe to describe the impact of tax injustice on developing countries. Project partners became the go-to voice of civil society on tax justice issues. Four years after the project, in November 2021, the European Parliament adopted the Directive on public country-by-country reporting.
