Start The Change

Project complete, from October 2017 to December 2020

What is it about?

“Start the change” developed European citizens’ awareness and critical understanding of our interdependent world and the development agenda, as formulated in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Through Global Citizenship Education, the project highlighted citizens’ own roles and responsibilities in the world. “Start the change” developed an innovative, replicable, educational model on global active citizenship of young people to reach the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. The activities and resources emphasised the relationships between human migration, SDGs and global inequalities.

What changes does this project inspire?

“Start the change” designed, implemented and validated educational paths on global interdependencies, for young people in twelve EU countries. It integrated global learning good practices in formal and non-formal educational programmes. The project ran over 130 training courses for over 2 000 teachers and educators.
Over 270 “Start the change” public initiatives involved almost 400 civil society organisations (CSOs) across Europe. The names of the mini-projects give some insights into the topics: “Solidarity Schools”, “Art and Earth”, “A Possible World”, “Youth4Earth” and “Parlez-vous global”.
The project created new forms of youth participation in local and transnational educational communities. Raising public awareness and building global partnerships for SDGs, the project enhanced relationships between schools, non-formal educational agencies, local CSOs and local authorities involved in territorial development education.
