Ladder Project

Project complete, from January 2015 to December 2017

What is it about?

“Ladder Project” enhanced the capacities and role of Local Authorities (LAs) as drivers for change in local development. It further developed the potential of LAs to engage citizens on development issues, both in the EU and its neighbouring regions. It strengthened the cooperation between LAs and civil society organisations and informed citizens and communities on their role and responsibility on global issues.

What changes does this project inspire?

Local authorities enhanced their skills and understanding of development cooperation and Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR), through over a hundred focus groups, job shadowing and training workshops. “Ladder Project” published five informative documents and a methodological handbook on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and Development Education and Awareness Raising (DEAR), developed based on a survey of over 1200 potential users’ existing knowledge of the topics. It also produced advocacy statements, reaction papers and ran advocacy events following six thematic learning paths and three geographical learning paths.
Thanks to the media outreach of “Ladder Project”, over 60 citizens journalists wrote 120 articles about development cooperation. LADDER supported 73 micro projects in 25 EU Member States and performed a theatre play about DEAR and SDGs ten times across Europe. Through grass-roots communication, over 770 children submitted proposals to a slogan contest.
