Global Issues – Global Subjects

Project complete, from November 2017 to March 2021

What is it about?

“Global Issues-Global Subjects” integrated Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and sensitive global issues, such as migration, gender equality and climate change in subject curricula in formal education. It analysed participating teachers’ competencies and created global education materials based on their needs. “Global Issues-Global Subjects” strengthened primary and middle school teachers’ competencies and self-confidence in addressing global topics in the classroom.

What changes does this project inspire?

“Global Issues-Global Subjects” helped teachers use participatory methods to deliver meaningful content for discussions on global issues. Teachers participated in 1600 (long and short) trainings to teach and discuss global issues in subject-specific areas. Training material in English and national languages covered the global learning concept, content and teaching methodology. Subject-oriented toolkits included lesson plans linking subject topics with global issues.
Head teachers and other formal education actors acknowledged the value of global education and embedded it in their curricula. By experiencing the role they can play in bringing positive change, pupils were motivated to take action for a more just and sustainable world.
