What is it about?

‘Financing development and developing finance for EYD2015’ called on European policy-makers to ensure coherence between public and private investments in developing countries, with European development policies and with the post-2015 Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). It raised public awareness about sustainable development, advanced policy and behaviour changes and built capacities among EU civil society and active citizens.

What changes does this project inspire?

Local communities in developing countries have built resistance against harmful infrastructure projects. Instead, eleven existing infrastructure investments have taken into account the needs of local residents and mitigated against climate change. Through links with EU and Member State officials, bankers and other decision-makers, as well as with social movements, the project influenced 17 international financing instrument (IFI) policies. Through active collaboration with journalists, the project increasingly gained online, print media, radio and TV coverage in popular national and international outlets.
